Care leavers
Council Tax discount for care leavers up to the age of 25.
If you are a care leaver aged under 25 who is paying Council Tax or living with someone who pays Council Tax, we may be able to reduce the amount of Council Tax you pay.
To qualify for a reduction you must:
- Be a care leaver under 25 years old
- Live in the Borough
- Be named on the Council Tax bill
The reduction can only be paid up to your 25th birthday.
What will I pay?
If you are the only person paying the Council Tax bill, you will not have to pay any Council Tax until you turn 21. Once you turn 21 you will pay 50% of your bill until you turn 25.
If you live with someone who is not a care leaver than you will receive a 50% reduction until you turn 21 and a 25% reduction between the age of 21 to 25.
