Manual DBS Certificates
We are aware that sometimes it is not possible for the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to produce a DBS Certificate using their normal processes.
Under these circumstances they will issue a manual certificate. Exactly the same checks are carried out as with a usual certificate. However, a manual DBS certificate cannot be registered on the update service. If you have already paid to join the update service with the application number, DBS will refund you the update service subscription.
Our conditions require a DBS to be on the update service. Drivers with a manual certificate should therefore apply for a new certificate 60 days prior to the six months from the previous certificate date. If you have any doubt when this may be, the date is on the certificate. It is our understanding that DBS will refund the cost for additional certificates required under these circumstances.
Note that if you are not on the update service and your DBS certificate is more than six months old, your licence may be suspended.
