Council appoints contractor for first sections of new road in Horton Heath
Important new road infrastructure for the ‘One Horton Heath’ development to relieve traffic pressure at Fair Oak and Horton Heath, is set to get under way following the Council’s appointment of locally based contractor Mildren Construction.
A recognised infrastructure contractor operating predominantly in the South East and South West, Mildren Construction will commence work on the £4.5million project that has received funding from Homes England in June 2020.
This contract includes new roundabouts; on Bubb Lane, Burnetts Lane and Allington Lane together with a new link road between the Bubb Lane and Burnetts Lane roundabouts.
The Council has been preparing the site for these works since February and will hand the site over to Mildren on 1 June with works set to begin from 8 June. The first sections of road are planned for completion in Spring 2021.
Council Leader Cllr Keith House said, “This is a very significant scheme for Horton Heath and Mildren Construction showed a great understanding of the project bringing with them a depth of experience in road building. As a local company they have a good understanding of, and relationship with, the local supply chain and are keen to work with us to ensure the road construction achieves economic benefits locally.
He added, “This project is further evidence of the Council’s ‘Infrastructure First’ approach. This is the first phase of infrastructure for the new community at Horton Heath and we are ensuring this vital new road infrastructure is in place first to help take traffic away from rural Burnetts Lane and remove some through traffic in both Fair Oak and Horton Heath.”
