Eastleigh enters third decade of delivering a real-terms Council Tax cut
21st year in a row that the Council has delivered a falling rate
Eastleigh Borough Council is entering a third decade of delivering a real-term cut in its element of residents’ Council Tax bills. It is now the 21st year in a row that the Council has delivered a falling rate in real terms.
At the budget-setting meeting last night, the Full Council approved a £5 annual increase on the average Council Tax bill for Eastleigh Borough Council for 2024-25. This year the average Band D Council Tax for the Borough is £141.66 or £2.72 per week.
Less than 7% of the overall Council Tax bill for Eastleigh Borough residents goes to the Borough Council.
Council Leader, Councillor Keith House said: “In 2019 we gave a commitment to continue to deliver a real-term cut in the Eastleigh element of residents’ Council Tax bills, while continuing to deliver high-quality services that deliver value for money. We are very proud that we have been able to extend what we believed is an unmatched record, against a background of huge uncertainty in the local government sector.
“Our prudent management of the Borough’s finances - which has been closely scrutinised and endorsed by CIPFA, the professional body for public sector financial management -means we have achieved this without significantly reducing our frontline services.”
