Eastleigh’s StreetScene team cleans up in awards
Ninth year of success

The Council team that keeps Eastleigh Borough’s streets and open spaces clean and attractive has picked up two prestigious national awards.
The Borough Council’s Street Cleansing team, part of its Direct Services operation, was again declared Best Overall Performer by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) – for the ninth year running – at an awards ceremony in Blackpool. The team first picked up the award in 2011.
Further success was achieved by the Hedge End-based Direct Services team in the Parks, Open Spaces and Horticultural Services category, where they were named best performer at the same event.
APSE is the organisation dedicated to promoting quality in the delivery of frontline services to local communities. Its awards are based on independently verified data, assessed against a range of criteria, including value-for-money, quality and the way an organisation develops its workforce.
In a competition that attracts submissions from more than 250 local authorities across the UK, Eastleigh’s achievement is unmatched: no other council service in the country has been awarded the UK’s Best Street Cleansing Service more than twice.
The Head of Direct Services at Eastleigh Borough Council, Paul Naylor, said: “Being recognised by APSE for the ninth year in a row is a tribute to the hard work of the Direct Services team and the pride they bring to the job. Their dedication to the task can be seen in the streets, villages, town centres and open spaces across our Borough.”
