Get up and close with Wild About Nature
Visit Itchen Valley Country Park on Sunday 14 June for a celebration of local wildlife as part of the Great Big Green Week, with displays and hands-on activities to inspire and amaze!
Pre-book for the Marvellous Moths and the Bird Box Workshop, with additional Meadow Minibeast Hunts and nature-inspired pop-up crafts throughout the day.
Some of the many wildlife charities, interactive displays, and stallholders ready to meet you include: RSPB, Hampshire Bat Group, Woodland Trust, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Amphibian and Reptiles Group, and Southampton Beekeepers (with honey!).
Marvellous Moths
Moth Reveal- experts will be identifying what has been caught in the trap overnight. From micro’s to Hawkmoths there are 2,500 different species of moth in the UK. Most of them are nocturnal so we don’t get to see them, but they have an amazing array of patterns and colours as camouflage against predators. In previous years we have found over 50 different species in one night!

Bird Box Workshop
Make a Bluetit bird box for next year’s breeding season. Help your local garden birds thrive and watching the parents going in and out tending to their young from your kitchen window is real a joy. This workshop will take place in the Marketplace next to the Woodland Café . It will involve putting together a pre-made kit using a screwdriver - no sawing required!
Children must be accompanied by an adult, but we would suggest 6+ years
