Mayor provides good luck message for the lionesses
Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Nick Couldrey is sending a good luck message to England’s Lionesses as they prepare to go for glory in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The team secured their place in the final on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Australia and will take on Spain on Sunday 20 August, kicking off at 11am (BST).
Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Nick Couldrey said: “It’s a truly fantastic achievement that the Lionesses have reached the final of the World Cup for the first time. Win or lose, the inspirational women representing our country have already created a legacy for future generations. I’m sure people across the Borough will join me in sending best wishes to the Lionesses for what promises to be a fantastic final and we’re backing the Lionesses to bring the trophy home. We are flying the flag to show our support this weekend and let’s hope we can cheer them on to victory on Sunday.”
He added, “The women’s game is going from strength to strength, thanks to the incredible achievements of the Lionesses. We know that sport and leisure can have such a positive impact on physical and mental health and it is fantastic to see the profile of women’s football being raised. There are now more opportunities than ever for girls and women of all ages and abilities to take part and we look forward to helping this grow even more.”
