New monthly market taking place in Hamble
A new monthly market is due to begin on Friday (20 August) in Hamble village as part of our Borough Markets, an initiative to encourage residents to shop locally.
In addition to the Village Market in Hedge End, Hamble market will host some of the same stalls as the current weekly market that takes place on the former Budgen’s site in Hedge End. Among the stalls to attend the first Borough Market in Hamble are: Flamingo Paperie (gift cards, wrapping paper, notelets), The Sweets Ladies (sweets and treats), Peartree Cottage (preserves and chutneys), Wood Crafted by Derek (handmade wooden utensils and toys), Ethel's Pies (home-made savoury pies), Monarch Creations ( fine art), Nova's Nursery (plants), Bare Bones BBQ (burgers and hot dogs) and the Scoop Boutique ice cream van. Many more are hoping to join in the coming months.
The first of the monthly Borough Markets will take place on Friday 20 August at the car park in the Square, Hamble, from 10am to 4pm and will continue on the third Friday of each month until Christmas. There will be an alternative Borough Market taking place in Netley on the first Friday of the month, the details for this are still being confirmed.
The venture from this is part of our COVID-19 recovery plans to help local businesses to promote their products and services at high profile locations in the centre of the Borough villages. The outdoor market in Hamble will provide the opportunity for local residents to safely shop in the village centre and allow businesses to have an outdoor space to sell and promote their products or services. In particular it will be helpful for those smaller businesses that may have to limit the number of customers on their premises or need help to raising their profile after lockdown earlier in the year.
Cabinet Member for Health and Social Policy, Councillor Tonia Craig: “We’re really pleased to be able to extend our markets across the Borough to continue to encourage residents to shop locally. The market is a great way for people to return to shopping in a safe environment whilst supporting local businesses.”
The car park where the market is due to take place will be partially closed during the event with alternative parking available for both residents with parking permits for the Square and for visitors to the market.
