Photo ID required for voting at polling stations on 4 May 2023
Borough residents will go to the polls on Thursday 4 May to have their say on who represents them in the Borough, Parish & Town Council elections.
As part of the Government’s commitment to updating security protections around identity at the polls it has introduced a requirement for voters to prove their identity at the polling station.The Government has changed the law regarding voting and from 4 May 2023, anyone voting in person at a polling station will need to show suitable photo ID before they can cast their vote.
All registered voters who are eligible to vote in the local elections will receive a new-look poll card, which will be in the form of an enveloped letter and addressed to the individual person, at the end of March/early April.
Residents who would like to vote by post will not require photo ID. Residents should apply now for a postal vote to ensure their application is processed early and issued as quickly as possible. You must be registered to vote - and it’s easy to apply.
