Southampton Airport planning application not supported
On Friday 26 March, Eastleigh Local Area Committee voted to not support the recommendation of the Head of Housing Development on the application from Southampton Airport to extend its runway.
The committee listened to a large number of representations from local people, organisations and Councillors both for and against the runway extension together with evidence from a range of specialists as well as considering a well-constructed and thorough report.
A majority of Eastleigh Local Area Committee Councillors voted five to three against the recommendation, and in line with Council procedure when applications have a significant borough wide impact, the planning application will now be referred to Full Council to determine.
A special meeting of Full Council will now take place on Thursday 8 April. Details of this meeting will appear on our website shortly.
