Storm Ciaran information and advice
Information and advice
The Met Office have issued Amber weather warnings for Wednesday and Thursday of this week as Storm Ciaran approaches and a major incident has been declared in Hampshire
Heavy rain and winds are likely to bring disruption from around 6pm on Wednesday, with very strong winds from 9pm and into Thursday (with the risk of flying debris, roof damage, coastal and localised flooding and potential danger to life).
There are currently no predicted disruptions to Eastleigh Borough Council activities, and we will continue to prioritise essential services. Waste and recycling collections will go ahead as normal.
Residents are advised to avoid the Borough's parks and woodland due to the danger of falling trees, as well as coastal areas and paths along rivers, and to remember that flood water may conceal hidden dangers.
We are advising householders to tie down, move or bring inside any garden furniture, parasols, children’s toys and especially trampolines, tents, tarpaulins or other loose, lightweight items in gardens and to move bins and other outdoor containers to a safe, sheltered place where possible.
We will continue to update our main social media channels - Twitter and Facebook - and we will keep a page updated linked from the homepage of this website: www.eastleigh.gov.uk.
Residents can keep up to date with local weather updates from the Met Office and advice about staying safe during a storm.
The Environment Agency issues flood alerts
Hampshire & IoW Fire and Rescue Service have also published public safety advice.
For information on any disruption to electricity supplies - Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks or call 105.
Information on roads, for example, flooding and fallen trees will be posted to Hants Highways Twitter and issues can be reported to Hampshire County Council.
Any school closures in the Borough will be made on a case-by-case basis.
