Ancasta Yacht Services
Ancasta Yacht Services is a marine business based on the River Hamble, offering maintenance, refit and repair services for some of the marine industry’s leading brands. It employs 33 people including 15 specialist craftsmen with a well-established apprentice program.
The facilities in Port Hamble include under-cover workshops that can accommodate yachts up to 26m, dedicated engineering and laminating workshops, an onsite wood mill and painting sheds.
The business occupies sheds built before energy saving materials and equipment were even thought of and uses a variety of plant and machinery, so its energy consumption is high.
The management team decided to make use of the ARG Energy grant that was available to them to improve energy efficiency in two ways: insulation and lighting.
The offices and workshop are made from a wood and plasterboard frame, so the grant was used to put insulating material across the roof and board it over. This will help retain heat in the offices which are heated entirely by electric wall heaters and will also keep them cooler in the summer.
Using specialist installers with a scaffold tower to reach the roof, the company has also replaced the lighting in the small workshops, stores and mezzanine level with energy efficient LEDs. This not only saves cost but has improved the intensity of lighting in the sheds considerably.
