Let's stop meating like this
Whether it’s beef, lamb, pork or poultry, most of us enjoy the taste of meat. But there is more and more information coming to light about the downsides of our meat heavy diets.
There is growing evidence that eating too much meat - especially red and processed meat, can be damaging for our health. At the same time, just one in ten of us is getting enough fibre in our diet, which can lower LDL cholesterol and reduce the risk of some diseases.
Animal agriculture is also a key driver of the climate and environmental emergency. Eating lots of meat might also be costing us more money - a 2019 poll showed people who cut down their meat intake saved an average of £209 a year!
So, it is no surprise that as many as one in four of us are looking to reduce the amount of meat we eat. In fact, as a nation, we are consuming 17% less meat than we did a decade ago. But opting for a more varied, balanced, healthy, energising and sustainable diet can be difficult when we are used to cooking and eating in a certain way.
