A large number of businesses from across the Borough attended the Council’s informative business breakfast, covering topics including air quality and healthy eating in the workplace.
The Council’s Economic Development Team hosted the meeting at East Horton Golf Club which featured an Air Quality Panel made up of Property Manager at Ageas Insurance, Richard Billingham; Andy Shaw, Operations Manager at BlueStar Buses and Eastleigh Borough Council’s Pollution Control Officer, Isabel Hessey.
They shared the air quality action plan which highlighted the need to reduce vehicle emissions and encourage more use of public transport in the area. The plan suggested ways that this could start to be promoted to local companies’ work forces.
The session also addressed the subject of health and wellbeing with a Healthy Eating in the Workplace panel including the Council’s Principal Environmental Health Officer, Matthew Blythe and Head of Health and Wellbeing, Ross Mclean, together with Linda Kennedy from Hampshire catering service HC3S, who provide healthy lunch options to schools and businesses across the county.
The panel presented research that suggests obesity rates in Eastleigh are quite high emphasising the need for more healthy eating options to be made available to employees in the area and help employers to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.
Talks were also given by GreenTechSouth and Solent LEP about funding opportunities available to businesses and the Council’s proposed commercial food waste recycling scheme presented by the Head of Direct Services, Paul Naylor.
