CycleTogether Eastleigh wants to hear the needs of residents
A project to help Eastleigh Borough residents improve their cycling skills and confidence on the road gets under way this summer. CycleTogether Eastleigh is a partnership with Sustrans and Steer to engage residents in training and events to cycle more, cycle safely and discover new routes across the Borough. It also aims to build a supportive cycling community in the Borough.
The Council is looking to hear from residents about their cycling wants and needs to help make cycling a part of everyday journeys.
A Community Engagement Officer for cycling (Ray, pictured) has been appointed to deliver cycle training and events across the Borough. He is already engaging with community groups to see what their needs are and now would love residents to provide feedback.
The short survey is anonymous, unless you would like to sign up to CycleTogether Eastleigh email updates. Questions range from your biking ability, which activities you think you and your family would benefit from, access to equipment, and when and where works best.
Activities can include bike maintenance courses, road cycle skills, family rides, Cycling meetups and free servicing – we would love to hear from residents so we can shape the summer programme onwards as soon as possible.
The Borough cycle map is also getting a facelift and a consultation will start soon with community stakeholders to revise and update the map, followed by a wider residents consultation, which Ray will also support with direct engagement at local events and groups. The aim is to have a brand new digital map (printable options available) online in early 2025.
Ray says “Hi, I’m Ray! I’m keen to help residents build their cycle skills and confidence, offer training, and organise some community bike rides to help people get active and have fun!”
“I’ll be talking to local community groups and organisations about the map later in the year. We’ll be asking for feedback from stakeholders and the wider public once the draft is complete, so if you love cycling, please get involved.”
The project is funded through the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
