Phase 4: Reinstatement of footpaths
Here are some highlights of path works completed so far:
In October 2020 we laid a new gravel path around the top of the main lake, diverting it north of its previous alignment onto higher ground. This enables a dry footpath connection to be maintained in this well used location.
During November 2019, our volunteers did a fantastic job of cutting back rhododendron from the eastern side of the main lake. They discovered a very old tarmac path hiding underneath this vegetation! A new tarmac topping was laid down in October 2020 providing an evenly surfaced path between Hiltingbury Road and Lake Road’s southern entrance.
In October 2020 a flat gravel path connection from the newly topped tarmac path to Lake Road’s southern entrance was installed. This allows pedestrians to avoid the adjacent but sloping path. Wooden dragon’s teeth were installed along the road edge so visitors can use the path safely.
Other improvements in 2020 include this gravel path through the woodland on the western side of the main lake, which was also uncovered.
In 2022 more paths around the lakes will be improved, please see our phase 2 update.
