Sustainability

Whilst enjoying the natural environment, visitors can find out about our four renewable energy generation installations and other low carbon measures that help the Park reduce its impact on the environment.

Near the Park's High Barn is a micro wind turbine rotating even in low winds to generate a small amount of electricity. On the roof of the Kingfisher building are 4kW of solar PV panels which generate approximately one tenth of the Park’s electricity needs every year.

There is also a low carbon biomass boiler that heats the High Barn. The biomass boiler is fueled by trees which are managed in a sustainable way; for every tree that is cut down for fuel, another is grown. 

The Kingfisher building is heated by a Ground Source Heat Pump that draws heat from the ground, much like a fridge in reverse.  It is insulated by natural sheep wool and the public toilets use a rainwater flushing system to reduce water usage.
